I can’t say I was all that shocked when I heard that the cistern we had decommissioned in the summer time was only decommissioned in the sense that water was no longer actively being pulled from it and no longer being added to it. Apparently all the drain water from the gutters is still filling it. (That makes TOTAL sense, right?)

When I asked C about the potential of it freezing (causing a pretty big flood hazard very close to the house) – his response was the equally non-shocking “Oh, I thought that might happen.” This lead me to re-explain my desire to know everything that could go wrong and how to fix it. The explanation is something along the lines of “if it would make your wife worry about it at your house, I would like to know.” This statement was originally replied with “but I don’t have a ___ (whatever went wrong at the time)”.

Now that we know that the decommissioned cistern is being filled – I wish we could continue to use the rain water… alas… I would rather not have a flood in a space attached to the house. I am told that this problem is being resolved. I also hope, once again, that this is the last time I hear “I thought that might happen.”
