Cruelty to New Parents

I am pretty sure the baby industry has good intentions, but they are actually cruel to new parents.

You take a group of hormonal pregnant women who are already insecure about their skills and parenting instincts, then you exploit these feelings by having things like “Must have lists” (which are coincidentally filled with one or two items you actually may need, then padded with thousands of dollars worth of crap), “Dr. BS Guaranteed” or “Whomever Crap Association Recommended” on things that MIGHT be kind of OK (maybe), but are totally not necessary, and sell it to the unsuspecting parents who just want to have the best for their babies. The babies, who by the way, will not know the difference between the one in the special shape and the one with the normal shape made “especially for them”.

COME ON PEOPLE! I am one of these unsuspecting mommies. I am already nervous about the fact that within a week or so I will have another person who is 100% dependant on me and hubby… let’s not add the stress of weeding through your BS at the baby superstore.

While picking up a few last minute sticks (things that were always on my wish list, but had not yet taken home), I found myself getting drawn into the BS signs about the fancy gadget that BS Dr. Crappola recommended for the ONLY way for you to have a happy baby.

Thankfully, I was in a hurry and didn’t have time to fret over it at the store. On the way home, I thought about it and realized it was one of those BS claims. This is when I realized that it is simply cruel to prey on the unsuspecting new parents fears while they shop for what they actually do want/need.

I am finished with my rant. You may now return to your normally scheduled Blog reading.
